Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary had their monthly sunset meeting this week! We welcomed our speaker, Chris Romero, from The Outreach Program, who shared information about this food packaging program. In the past we have enjoyed working with Rise Against Hunger but our club wanted to explore and compare the two programs.

The Outreach Program was developed by a Rotarian in Iowa in 2004. and has since packaged well over 750 million meals to domestic and international feeding organizations. In 2007,  The Outreach Program started the option of having the food remain in local communities. Now 95% of the food packages remains with local organizations . Ten different meals are offered that only need water and a heat source to prepare. All meals are plant-based, have a shelf life of two years, and are vitamin rich. Chris shared that the breakfast Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal  is the most popular with local food banks. For more information, please visit their website outreach program.org.
