At this week's meeting we were inspired to learn about Free Wheelchair Mission from Nikki Tobia, Development Officer. This wonderful international humanitarian organization based in Irvine, California, concentrates on transforming lives through the gift of mobility.
Free Wheelchair Mission has provided over 1.2 million wheelchairs to 94 countries in their twenty year history. We witnessed how the recipients of these free wheelchairs have their lives changed by improving dignity and increasing their opportunities to make them feel human. The gift of mobility not only affects the person, but also the lives of family and community members in developing nations. Over 100 Rotary Clubs throughout the world have been involved in Free Wheelchair Mission by either raising funds or as a distribution partner. Each chair costs only $96 which is inclusive of manufacturing, shipping, training and fitting of the chair to the client.
